The Doctrine and Covenants Testifies of Jesus Christ
Doctrine and Covenants 50:41–45
41 Fear not, little children, for you are mine, and I have overcome the world, and you are of them that my Father hath given me;
42 And none of them that my Father hath given me shall be lost.
43 And the Father and I are one. I am in the Father and the Father in me; and inasmuch as ye have received me, ye are in me and I in you.
44 Wherefore, I am in your midst, and I am the good shepherd, and the stone of Israel. He that buildeth upon this rock shall never fall.
45 And the day cometh that you shall hear my voice and see me, and know that I am.
Professors Stephen E. Robinson and H. Dean Garrett wrote:
“41. Fear not, little children, for you are mine. This term of endearment indicates to those Saints who honor their covenants, though they may be immature and childlike, that they may take heart in being Christ’s children through the second birth of the gospel. Faithful Saints then and now should be comforted in knowing that they belong to Christ and that Christ has overcome all things. He will not lose any of them, and nothing can take them out of His hand (see v. 42). Further, if the Father and the Son are one, and the faithful Saints are one with the Son, then they are also one with the Father (see v. 43). There is nothing the faithful Saints need fear in this life or the next—so long as they remain faithful.
“44. The good shepherd, and the stone of Israel. See Genesis 49:24; Isaiah 8:14; 28:16; Psalm 118:22 in the Old Testament; Matthew 7:24; 21:42; John 10:11 in the New Testament; and Alma 5:38–39; 3 Nephi 11:39–40 in the Book of Mormon.
“45. You shall hear my voice and see me. The obvious reference is to the last day, when the faithful will actually see and hear the Lord at His Second Coming (see John 14:16; D&C 88:3–6).”
